In 2021, an animated Christmas special featuring Jaleel White in his most iconic role as Steve Urkel was announced. Mr. White, had recently stepped back into the role on an episode of Scooby Doo Guess Who? and while I questioned the audience for a special like this, personally I was excited.
The official synopsis described the show as:
From executive producer Wyatt Cenac, Did I Do That to the Holidays? A Steve Urkel Story brings back one of the most iconic sitcom characters of all time for an animated movie musical event. The holiday season has arrived, and brilliant but accident-prone Steve Urkel has already ruined his local celebration by publicly humiliating a shopping mall Santa. In his attempt to make things right and score some nice points with the big guy in the North Pole, Steve creates an invention that only makes things worse. Using his big brain and even bigger heart, Steve must find the real Santa to see if together they can help the city rediscover the holiday spirit. Jaleel White serves as producer and will also reprise his iconic performance by voicing the beloved super genius.
Sadly, a lot changed between 2021 and its scheduled debut in the fall of 2022. Warner Brothers merged with Discovery and a new CEO was appointed. He began cancelling projects to write them off on their taxes, and while Did I Do That to the Holidays wasn’t officially cancelled, it never made the debut on Cartoon Network nor HBO Max as originally planned. There were rumors that the show was being shopped around to other streaming services, but nothing official has been announced.
I’m not sure if the special will ever be released, but some photos have leaked. I’ve posted what I could find below. Let’s hope that this holiday season it’ll make an appearance somewhere.
