Championship Vinyl 004 – Ladies Night

Welcome to Championship Vinyl 004. This week has been rough as I have been battling the flu. I debated on waiting to do this episode this week, but the show must go on! This week I’ll be focusing on the Ladies of music that I enjoy. So let’s get to the music.

Song 1: Criminal – Fiona Apple

The year was 1996 and I was a freshman in collage. I remember getting into my Buick Century and the opening riff started to play. Fiona’s voice was eerily comforting to me. I could feel her emotion almost like I could with Alanis. This song’s rhythm section is spectacular and once I found out who was singing, I quickly owned the whole cd.

Favorite Lyric: And I need To be redeemed To the one I’ve sinned against

Song 2: Madonna – Who’s That Girl

Let’s journey back to 1987 to Madonna’s hit Who’s That Girl.  While this was connected to a movie,I prefer Madonna as a singer. This song is in my opinion simply beautiful. I remember hearing at School dances and just loving it. Before there were the Brittany’s and Christina’s there was Madonna , my first celeb crush lol.

Favorite Lyric:You try to avoid her, fate is in your hands She’s smiling, an invitation to the dance

Song 3: I’m Outta Love- Anastacia

This song is 100 bad ass in every way. Anastasia voice full of grit and power gives me goosebumps. I remember working in at On Cue and we got sampler Cd’s and this song blared through the speakers. I danced in the store like no one was watching, mainly because we are not open yet. I feel that Anastacia was extremely underrated and it’s my pleasure to feature her here.

Favorite Lyric: I’m outta love set me free and let me out this misery,Just show me the way to get my life again,’Cause you can’t handle me.

Song 4: Take it Off- The Donnas

I stumbled across The Donnas, an all girl rock band, when they came out with Take it off in 2002. I was impressed at the raw rock sound these girls possessed. I bought the Spend the Night CD and it blew me away, I found out that this was not their first Cd as they had been around a while. This song is fun and simply rocks. They bring an old school 80’s rock vibe, Sadly they broke up, but I’ll be first in line for the reunion concert.

Favorite Lyric: Forget the application, You’re the right guy for the task
Let me take you on vacation, Just do it, you don’t have to ask

Song 5: Sk8er Boi – Avril Lavigne

A play list of ladies wouldn’t be complete without Avril. Ska8er Boi is a rocking song that in my opinion put Avril on the map. This song made the punk girl and the skater boy the hero. It gave hope to all the award kids! Overall this song made me a fan of Avirl and she has yet to disappoint.

Favorite Lyric:Now he’s a superstar Slammin’ on his guitar Does your pretty face see what he’s worth?

Well That’s it for this week! I hope you enjoy the tunes and stay well!!

  1. The Donnas were more popular in California. Have you heard their cover of Alice Cooper’s “Schools Out?”

    • Yes I have. I also loved their cover of Strutter.
