Championship Vinyl 003 -Rock of Love

Welcome to this weeks Championship Vinyl. I figured since we are on the cusp of Valentines Day it would only be right to spin some love songs. So let’s get started!!

Song 1: Can’t Help Falling in Love – Elvis Presley

You can’t have a love song collection without including the King of Rock n Roll, Elvis Presley. This song is one of Presley’s most popular and was featured in his movie, Blue Hawaii. It’s very sentimental  to me because when my wife and I renewed our vows on out tenth year, this was the song I had play when she walked down the aisle.

Favorite Lyric: Wise men say, Only fools rush in, But I can’t help falling in love with you

Song 2: Always – Bon Jovi

I gotta admit back in my High School  days in the middle of the grunge revolution I was still flying my 80’s rock flag. So I was excited when Bon Jovi put out a Greatest Hit so to speak. It  had all my favorite songs and a few new ones. One of the new ones was Always. I felt that Jon really sang his heart out on this one, and I felt it wasn’t just a filler song they put on the cd. This was an actual hit.

Favorite Lyric: I can’t sing a love song like the way it’s meant to be
Well, I guess I’m not that good anymore, but baby, that’s just me.

Song 3: Sweet Child O’ Mine- Guns N Roses

I remember the first time I heard Sweet Child from the Appetite of Destruction Cd. I though to myself this song has a great into, and some really cool lyrics. I knew if I wanted to get a girlfriend, I needed to be smooth like Axl Rose. This is just a classic and I hope everyone can think of someone they love when they rock out to this song!

Favorite Lyric: She’s got eyes of the bluest skies As if they thought of rain I’d hate to look into those eyes and see an ounce of pain

Song 4: In Your Eyes -Peter Gabriel

I relate this song  to the movie Say Anything. In this movies John Cusack’s character Loyd finally gets up the nerve to ask his crush, Diane Court out on a date. These two are complete opposites and through humor, heartbreak and reconciliation they build a sweet story. I always related to Loyd as I never felt worthy of the girl, yet when I found my “Diane” see seemed to like the goofy, awkward me. The song come from Peter Gabriel’s So album and over all it’s worth a listen.

Favorite Lyric: In your eyes, The light, the heat (in your eyes)
I am complete (in your eyes), I see the doorway
To a thousand churches (in your eyes)

Song 5: Four Letter Word – Def Leppard

It was only a matter of time before Leppard made an appearance on Championship Vinyl. I picked this song for two reasons 1. It’s off of their X album which is a personal favorite of both Brandon and I. Reason two is that it is a fun song in its simplicity. The melody and harmony make it easy to sing along, plus its the perfect blend of girl pursuit  and rock n roll. I like it because it shows Def Leppard range in that they are a rock band who made a pretty awesome pop song. I was lucky to see this song performed twice during the X tour. It’s often overlooked, but I’m willing to bet you will like it!

Favorite Lyric: You’re all I’m lookin’ for, You ain’t the girl next door

Well that wraps up this weeks Championship Vinyl, See you all soon.
